Could This Be The Best Face Sunscreen for the Australian Sun?

Jump straight to the best face sunscreen in my opinion here.

I am serious about face protection. I don't think you'll ever catch me outdoors without sunscreen on. Although I'm saying this, I am picky when it comes to sunscreen. Sticky = no. Oily = no. Smelly = no. It also has to be makeup friendly, cost effective and most importantly - DOES'T BREAK ME OUT! You also hear others talk about UVA, UVB, Mineral, Chemical, level of SPF... The list just goes on.

But I think I've found my holy grail.

Hamilton Everyday Face Cream

✨SPF 50+

✨75g

✨$14

OMG. It really ticks all my boxes. Dries to a semi-matte finish, looks great under makeup, not oily, oxybenzone free, doesn't irritate my skin! It reminds me of Mecca's face sunscreen without any downsides (see comparison below), I just love it. It's a sheer beige colour that blends into nothing, and feels like you have no sunscreen on at all.

Fortunately for me, Sydney's weather throughout the month of September/October has been quite wild and I have been able to test this out in numerous weather conditions. On the colder, rainier days, this has been quite moisturising and kept me from becoming dry. On the days that were boiling hot and sweaty, I definitely think I needed a powder at around the mid afternoon mark - but this is normal for my skin.

I literally cannot tell you anything else except I LOVE IT!!

💸Pocket friendly

❤️Semi-matte finish

❤️Moisturising

❤️Makeup friendly

Other sunscreens I've tried:

Ultra Violette - Queen Screen Illuminating Sun Serum

✨SPF 50+

✨50ml

✨$47

While I enjoyed using this one, it was not my favourite. Before I left the shop I was warned to "make sure you apply at least three squirts of this to get the most protection", I thought it was reasonable at the time but I'm not too sure now. 3 droppers of this sunscreen meant I used it up extremely quickly. I also found out I wasn't a fan of the glowy look - this was definitely personal preference of course. It did look amazing under makeup!

❌Expensive

❌Luminous finish

❤️Moisturising

❤️Makeup friendly

Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face

✨SPF 50+

✨75g

✨$42

This sunscreen performed amazingly. It sat so nicely on my skin, lightly fragranced - the only thing that held me back from repurchasing was that it made me break out! I've heard that the oxybenzone free formula is better, but I am yet to test it.

❌Expensive

❤️Semi-matte finish

❌Skin broke out

❤️Makeup friendly

Comparing this to the Hamilton Everyday Face, and also ignoring the fact that this Mecca one made me break out, I can see quite a few similarities (image below). Like the Hamilton, it dries to a semi-matte finish. I don't notice myself getting excessive oily during the day. It also looks great under makeup and doesn't pill. My one concern would be price; Personally, I cannot justify paying $42 for a product when a $14 alternative is available. BUT again my opinion may be skewed as the Mecca sunscreen did break me out.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Clear Face Sunscreen

✨SPF 30

✨88ml

✨$17

I use to wear this everyday in high school, it gave a matte finish and was weightless. The biggest issue and this is why I stopped using it - this sunscreen would make my face STING. I'll leave it at that.

❤️Cheap

❤️Matte finish

❌Stung my face

❤️Makeup friendly
