The start of another quick reads series! Join me in my foodie adventures around Sydney and it's surrounds. Starting off with Restaurant Hubert, tucked about 2 flights of stairs under Blight Street, boasts a dining experience that was both luxurious and delicious. The restaurant walls are littered with old bottles of alcohol and the theme reminds me of like a little theatre. With live jazz, it's quite the spot for a date night.

As a birthday treat, we headed to Hubert on a Saturday night and opted for the shared banquet menu "Petit Banquet". At the time, it was $115 per person, but checking the pricing at the time of publishing it looks like it increased to $125.

My final review is definitely visit this restaurant! Alexis Besseau's food is something special. Save yourself a bit of money and just order off the menu rather than a set menu. If you are going, make sure you try the Escargots, Gnocci and Pommes Anna!

Happy reading!

Duck Parfait

Info: Liver mousse, maple syrup jelly

Rating: Pretty good, it was very rich. The best part was the maple jelly. We paired it with the bread. Good if you enjoy pate, but I personally don't.

Recommendation: Yes if you like pate, but personally Skip.

Hubert Baguette

Info: Bread and butter

Rating: Typical bread and butter, nothing special. The bread was served warm but not toasted though. To be honest none of us really went for the bread.

Recommendation: Skip

Prime Beef Tartare

Info: Wagyu topside, classic condiments

Rating: I am not sure what the tartare ingredients were but it just tasted like beef and pickles, and not in a good way either. The pickles overwhelmed the flavours. The fries were good, but they were so similar to French Fries packet chips from woolies.

Recommendation: Skip

Bonus: Pate en Croute

Info: Pork terrine baked in pastry, dill pickle

Rating: I believe they served us this incorrectly because it is not part of the set menu. The pastry was THICK and the pork was hard. Not my cup of tea.

Recommendation: Skip

Terrine de Poulpe

Info: Octopus terrine, salted cucumber

Rating: I DONT LIKE OCTOPUS LOL

Recommendation: No recommendation cause I did not try it.

Escargots XO

Info: Roasted snails, XO butter, Hubert baguette

Rating: Juicy snails in the most decadent and flavoursome sauce. You need to try this at least once in your life. I wish I used the bread to soak up all that buttery goodness at the end but for some reason I didn't think of it. Regrets!

Recommendation: 100% YES

Gnocci Parisienne

Info: Pan fried choux pastry, zucchini, peas, parmesan

Rating: THE GNOCCI WAS CRISPY, URGH what a delicious dish. This was crazy good! The crispy parmesan on the top, mixed with a pillowy and slightly crispy gnocci, and the sauce. YUM!

Recommendation: YES

Chicken Fricassee

Info: Hubert's whole chicken, bread sauce, green garlic

Rating: The green garlic and bread sauce combo was such a winner. The chicken I found a bit on the dry side, but fortunately all that sauce was there to make it better.

Recommendation: Yes

Pommes Anna

Info: Layered potato, miso beurre blanc

Rating: This was straight up crack or something. The potatoes were crispy, the gravy was to die for. I would give up my life for this. You need it.

Recommendation: YES

Salade d'Endives

Info: Endive mesclun, walnut dressing

Rating: I swear this was just lettuce? I don't remember any dressing.

Recommendation: Probably skip because it was just lettuce

Dessert

Creme Caramel

Info: Egg custard, bitter caramel

Rating: I was not a fan, I'm use to a lighter creme caramel. This one felt a bit dense. But according to the rest of the dinner party they enjoyed it.

Recommendation: Yes to try, but personally I would not order this again.

Final Review

Was it worth it? Heck yes! Going as a group rather than ordering ala carte will definitely save you so much money if you want to try a variety of dishes. I loved my dining experience here. 9/10.
